Hi, there. We are Maesy and Teddy, once known in The Dusty Sneakers as Gypsytoes and Twosocks. We are both development workers based in Jakarta, Indonesia, who love traveling and practice writing stories in this bilingual blog.
The Dusty Sneakers is our memory vault and creative space. We keep encounters, moments, and reflections in our memory vault, so you won’t find reviews or how-to and what-to suggestions in our stories since we ourselves rely on other blogs that are fantastic at doing that. We also use this blog as a creative space, where we experiment with ways to combine our interests in traveling, writing, reading, and social issues. It may be by trying out spoken word, collaborating on a travelogue, getting over our nerves and finally publish a book, or even by running POST, an independent bookshop and creative space in a traditional market in Jakarta.
The two of us are a little bit like that jazz song, “Let’s Call the Whole Thing Off”. We both enjoy writing, but Maesy expresses herself best in English while Teddy only wants to weave words in Bahasa Indonesia. We are both bookworms, but Teddy grew up with Mahabharata and these days hunts everything Yusi Avianto Pareanom wrote, while young Maesy learned about books from Roald Dahl and her adult self learns about people from Terry Pratchett. We are both addicted to travelling, but Maesy is a water baby while Teddy craves the mountains. One may say po-tay-to while the other says po-tah-to, but we are each other’s favorite person in the world and have no plans to call the whole thing off.
We walk, we dance, we write – and we hope you enjoy reading our stories!
